Because there are so many injuries and therefore so many possible combinations of injured players, I have asked the readers of the blog, to pose to me your injury dilemmas. I’ll now answer some of them.

Refer to this for why you should drop Hill: http://yoursupercoachcoach.com/2009/04/06/let-down-of-round-2/

DG:

B: C Cornes, Hodge, Drummond, Goddard, Raines (inj), Tiller (dropped), Hurley (inj), Suban, Petrenko
M: Ablett, Judd, Selwood, K Cornes, Reilly, Rich – Dangerfield, Anthony
R: Cox, Kruezer – Jacobs, Spencer
F: Pavlich, Fevola, J Brown, Deledio, Krakouer, Higgins, Ziebell – M Brown, Walker

No trades used yet. Team ranked 10,000 ish

Clearly my defence is my weak spot. My plan is to save trades (going for league win) and keep Hurley and Raines for now. However, Tiller I now see as a stupid pick so he is my target.

Trade in mind = Tiller ($218K) for Rance ($94K), save cash for later. The other option is Cheney however I fear that’s another bandwagon like Hill was.

Reassess Raines next week. Thoughts?

Going for the league win you’d want to be saving trades as you said. You’re spot on with trading Tiller and keeping Raines, Hurley and Anthony. Tiller out for Cheney in my opinion. I think he will get more games than Rance will.

TC:

Below is my team:

Backs:
Goddard (VC), Drummond, Lockyer, C.Cornes, Adcock, Petrenko, Hill, (Raines, Boughton on bench)
Midfields:
Bartel (C), K.Simpson, J.Selwood, Foley, Wells, Skipworth, (Robinson, Anthony on bench)
Ruck:
Mcintosh, Hille, (Spencer, Myke on bench)
Forwards:
Chapman, Pavlich, Deledio, Higgins, Houlihan, N.Krakouer, (M.Brown, T.Walker on bench)

I’m currently with a dismal overall ranking of around 32,000, and I haven’t made any trades yet… for the life of me I can’t see why a team like this can’t do better.

I’m thinking of either (with $7,000 spare under salary cap):
1. trading Raines for Hurn, Anthony for a rookie e.g. zaharakis, beams, joseph, jetta

2. trading Anthony for Rich (who’s value will change after Rd 3), and S.Hill for Rance (if Hill playing Rd 3 which prob means his value will go down)

3. trading Anthony for Rich, Raines for J.Frawley or Geary

What do you think Marcus? Any advice will be appreciated! I guess I’m concentrating on winning my league (I’ve won playing against mates in the past 2 seasons so the pressure’s on) but would like to see a healthier overall ranking. Cheers!

League win path means taking the path of conserving trades. Anthony will come back in a month and make you money by about Round 12 which is 100% fine for the league win path. He should stay in. Raines will be back in a about a month and will be making you some monetary gains soon too. He too should remain untraded. Hill though seems like a complete dud, I would trade him out because I’m not sure if he will make you much at all. Trade him for Cheney. He should play more games than Rance.

Timmy D

I would appreciate your feedback on my team.

Currently ranked 1465 Cash $64,300, Trades 20

Current Side
Backs: P Burgoyne, Goddard, Houlihan, C Cornes, Hodge, Petrenko, Hill Bench: Raines & Broughton

Midfield: Ablett, Goodes, Rich, J Selwood, Otten,Dalziell Bench: Robinson, Anthony

Rucks: Cox, McIntosh, Bench: Jakobs, Spencer

Forwards: Richardson, Higgins, Franklin, Pavlich, Krakouer N, O’Keefe R, Brown M Bench: Walker, Ballantyne

Am thinking of upgrading Dalziell to Gibbs & Raines to Gilbert this week. I think Dalziell’s role has changed under Voss (unfortunately). It was a risk picking him. Gilbert I think I’ll keep in my final side if he can continue to average over 100.

Next week trade Anthony for either Beans or Essendon’s Zak. Will wait and see how they go this week.

After this the next trade I’ll be looking to make is to upgrade my 7th foward with a low price premium player (maybe Harvey etc will need to cash in a rookie to do this).

Any feedback on my side and plans to trade would be most helpful. I would like to finish in the top 1000 this season and win my league if possible.

Cheers Timmy

Dalziell is first to go in the team. Looks like he will drop significantly in price this year. I also think Hill is a complete spud and won’t make you much coin so I’d trade him out too. If you do Hill –> Cheney, you’d be able to hit Dalziell –> Dal Santo (possibly Judd depending on the spare coin you have).

Ed

Hi Marcus, great site mate.

B: Goddard Hodge Bowden Cornes Malceski Rance(Hill Broughton)
M: Ablett Gibbs Selwood Foleey Haselby Rich (Beams Anthony)
R: Cox McIntosh (Jacobs Spencer)
F: Buddy Deledio Pavlich Higgins Skipworth Krakouer Ziebel (M Brown(WCE) Walker)

Thinking of trading Haselby for Heath Hocking & then Hill for Hurn, both boys should make $$ & if they keep scoring as they have been will help my score also.
Have held off trading anthony out, want to see how zaka goes this week. Going for overall ranking & hoping that this should take care of my league win against my mates in the process ;)
Thanks Marcus

I think Hill is a dud and won’t make you much dosh so I’d be getting him out of there first. Hill –> Cheney. Then I’d personally go Anthony –> Otten because I like trading in gun rookies in Round 2. Otten looks solid and should earn you some very nice coin. Of course if you prefer Zakka then hold off on trading Anthony until next week then reasses. The rest of your team looks fine. Hasleby is just taking a bit more time getting into it. Give him some time, surely you didn’t expect 100s from him starting round 1, back your descisions behind picking him and *fingers crossed* you made the right one.

Jarred

My Team:

Goddard, Gilbee, Adcock, Drummond, CCornes, Raines, Petrenko, S Hill, Broughton

Ablett, Judd, Dal Santo, J Selwood, Rich, Robinson, Beams, Ziebell

Cox, Tippet, Spencer, Currie

Franklin, Deledio, J Brown, Hall, Higgins, Skipworth, Krakouer, Walker, M Brown

I have Raines who is injured and would like to get rid of him. I also have Barry Hall (why!) and i was considering trading him too. If I get Houlihan for Hall and Rance/Cheney for Raines it would put me 2 trades down, but at least I’ll get some value. The other option is to not trade Raines, but get rid of Hill. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I’ll go off the assumption you are going for ranking over league placing. Raines will make you dosh soon enough so I’d keep him in your team; Hill on the other hand doesn’t look up to it. I’d take Hill out for Cheney first of all. Hill is a spud and doesn’t look like he will make much $$, Cheney on the other hand should make some decent coin. Then address your B.Hall problem. Trade him out for the Fev-train. Looks to be a lot more matured this year and with less focus on him in the forward line he will get less 2 on 1s. Should score very well this season.

Sam

My Team (with 21,800 in the bank)
This is my starting line up this week if i was for some reason not trade out injured players/ unselected players/ dud selections haha.

Backs: Goddard, Drummond, Cornes, Hodge, Adcock, Petrenko, Suban (Raines and Hill on the bench)

Thinking possible trade out raines for hurn/cheney.. dont have enough for gilbert and stuck with other options

Mids: Ablett, Judd, Rich, Selwood, Hasleby, Tuck (Robinson and Anthony)

Rucks: Cox, McIntosh ( Jacobs and Browne)

Forwards: Higgins, Skipworth, Houlihan, Brown, Deledio, Pavlich, M.Brown (Hentschel and Walker)

Thinking of trading Hentschel for Krakouer..

Haven’t used any trades yet. Any help appreciated!

Then adress your biggest dud – Hentschel. Kraks seems like your only option. Go for it.

These are merely my opinions and I don’t have a crystal ball… it’s not a guaranteed success; for example if Hill suddenly becomes the new Palmer, all of this advice will have you guys coming after me with a knife. Don’t hold me responsible! You have the power to say ‘NO… this guy is an idiot!’

Sooo… you don’t have PERMA-CAPTAIN YAAAAAAAABLET?!

Well then this is the post for you!

The scores come from all the games the particular player has played against that team in the past 3 H&A seasons.

Geelong Cats v Collingwood Magpies

Players Average
J.Corey 73 95 148 105 105.25
H.Shaw 115 115 89 117 109
T.Cloke 134 113 123.5
T.Lockyer 107 135 91 127 115

Geelong’s bad run against the Pies have wrecked their SC record against them and therefore there’s not much to report about on the Geelong side.

H.Shaw averages 109 but I wouldn’t touch him with his inconsistency.

Cloke’s average is tempting but is a smokey.

T.Lockyer is solid against the Cats. Should be better options out there though

St.Kilda v West Coast Eagles

Players Average
N.Dal Santo 100 95 150 101 93 107.8
N.Riewoldt 74 119 86 148 126 110.6
L.Hayes 162 110 161 103 134
D.Cox 177 125 112 85 124.75
D.Kerr 106 160 131 132.3333
Q.Lynch 43 82 111 151 137 104.8

Dal Santo’s good average against the Weagles and his blistering form puts him in contention for captain this week.

Riewoldt has a solid average against the Weagles but I would stay away. He is running cold.

Lenny Hayes is a superstar and tears the Weagles up. It will only be his 2nd game back however. Smokey. Pick if you dare.

Cox has a good average v the Saints and is running hot. Looks good.

Kerr has an awesome average against the Saints. Still I don’t like his consistency… beware.

The Big Q Stick has a good average against the Saints. Smokey.

Carlton Blues v Essendon Bombers

Players Average
B.Fevola 153 98 180 -13 148 111 112.8333
C.Judd 123 89 151 59 105.5
H.Scotland 176 107 123 111 59 80 109.3333
N.Stevens 103 91 88 96 136 102.8
M.Lloyd 153 121 106 146 131.5

Fev is running hot, over his bruised heel, and if you take out the -13 averages a HUGE 138 against the Bombers, who match up poorly on key forwards. Get on.

Juddinator is running hot and averages well against the bombers. Always in captain contention.

Scotland averages well against the bombers but is running cold. Risky pick.

Stevens will return from suspension this week. Averages a decent 103 against the bombers. Should be better options out there though.

Lloyd has a great average against the Blues. However he is running cold. Risky pick with high potential reward.

Brisbane Lions v Sydney Swans

Players Average
J.Adcock 139 146 116 107 52 112
A.Goodes 149 164 87 161 117 135.6

Swans are involved… not much to report here. Adcock averages well against them but has been running ice cold.

Goodesy however is running red hot and has a sick average against the Lions. The 2 time Brownlow medallist is in captain contention.

Port Adelaide Power v Melbourne Demons

Players Average
D.Brogan 107 115 111
P.Burgoyne 99 97 144 154 123.5
S.Burgoyne 109 87 85 136 104.25
D.Cassisi 94 65 103 154 104
C.Cornes 134 150 166 150
B.Green 126 120 79 108.3333
J.McDonald 99 116 119 89 105.75

Lots here. It’s against the Dees so that isn’t surprising. Purger averages 124 against the dees and has been scoring well. A decent option.

Shaun Burgoyne is a bit down on form, decent average but a risky pick.

D.Cassisi has a decent average but there should be better choices

C.Cornes goes nuts against the Dees. Nowhere near career best form but a 150 average makes me salivate.

B.Green is a fantasy gun. Always in contention it seems, but also, always seem to be better options.

J.McDonald is a smokey pick. Should be better options though.

North Melbourne Kangaroos v Hawthorn Hawks

Players Average
B.Harvey 93 134 100 135 88 116 136 111
B.Guerra 97 102 103 82 145 81 124 104.8571

Not much here. Harvey averages well against the hawks but is running cold. I’d pass.

Guerra averages decently against North but again… there are better options.

Fremantle Dockers v Adelaide Crows

Players Average
S.Goodwin 127 67 102 67 131 128 103.6667

Again, little here, Goodwin looks solid but once again, should be better options.

Western Bulldogs v Richmond Tigers

Players Average
D.Cross 141 129 105 125
J.Bowden 112 196 116 141.3333
B.Deledio 118 78 104 125 106.25

Cross is a fantasy gun and loves the Tiges. Average of 125 and he is a serious captain contender.

Bowden racks it up against the doggies. An average of 141 makes him tempting… but his age and form make me wary.

Deledio averages well against the dogs. I think there are better options this week though.
